the right environment

concentrate - you want your partner to concentrate completely on the sensations they are experiencing. you want them to feel immersed. stimulation can be pleasurable or objectionable depending on context, level of arousal and your partner’s receptiveness

comfort - think about your space. you want to start with a relaxed baseline. create a warm, comfortable environment and your partner will be more focussed and attentive.

go in with a plan - preparation is important. you decide the narrative, the sequence of stimulations. be an assured hand. your partner needs to feel you know what you are doing and there is intention in your actions

trust - speak with your partner. understand what they want and what their comfort levels are. for us, sensation play is about creating an enjoyable experience.

sound - with the blindfold, sound and the aural environment is accentuated. it is a powerful way to aid immersion and create specific moods. autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is closely linked to sensation play. whispering, soft speaking, repetitious, methodical sounds and actions can have patterns bring on the feeling that is best described as making your hairs stand on end.

oils - the application of different oils warms the skin. it makes it feel more supple and more sensitive. when your partner is still and immersed, the aromas of oils and tinctures can be deeply relaxing or pungent and stimulating.
